The Role

We’re looking for a highly competent Security Officer to join the team at our Thatcham operation. As part of the security team, you will help to control inbound/outbound vehicle movements, monitor the site and secure the perimeter to protect colleagues and visitors as well as our assets and inventory. The business will rely on you for the protection, safeguarding and security of its physical assets and people through a rotating 4-on-4-off night time shift pattern providing the site with ‘dark hours cover’, 7 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regular site patrols to monitor the perimeter, the access points and check buildings and equipment
  • Monitoring surveillance cameras and equipment
  • Vetting visitors and contractors on arrival, responding to emails, controlling site registers, answering out of hours calls etc.
  • Authorise the ingress/egress of people and vehicles to site and commercial vehicle movements out of hours
  • Ensure the security, safety and well-being of all personnel and visitors including on-site compliance with Health & Safety policy, use of designated walkways and the wearing of the correct PPE
  • Maintain a smart and presentable appearance, wearing issued uniform / PPE at all times and ensuring your SIA Licence is valid and fully visible whilst on shift
  • Note and escalate suspicious behaviours and happenings
  • Immediate response to all site alarms
  • Submit reports of daily surveillance activity
  • Conduct a handover with the oncoming shift
  • Protect and maintain confidential information
  • Adhere to all company service and operating standards
  • Be a point of contact for first aid
  • Management of fuel and AdBlue storage on site, including deliveries

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

An SIA Licence and have prior experience as a security officer/have former military experience. The post holder will have an eye for detail and the ability to identify and react to suspicious behaviour in order to pre-empt and prevent criminal activity, theft, or vandalism.

  • 2 years’ experience as a Security Officer, similar role, or ex-military
  • Good understanding of legal guidelines for security and public safety
  • Knowledge of standard security concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with report writing and IT literate to a basic standard
  • Outstanding surveillance and observation skills with experience in monitoring surveillance systems
  • Trained in First Aid
  • Good communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licence
  • Ability to commute to Thatcham and able to work on a rolling nightly shift pattern which may result in weekend, and bank holiday working. Periods of overtime may also be required to maintain the shift pattern in the case of holiday/sickness cover
