Isover is a leading manufacturer of insulation for supply to the building trade and for end-user domestic use.

The company is part of the Saint Gobain group with its manufacturing facility in Runcorn, Cheshire. EV Cargo took over the contract in June 2017 and now manages all UK nationwide distribution, delivering to a mix of specialist wholesalers and building merchants such as SIG, Jewson and Travis Perkins.

The demands

Isover needed a logistics partner that could offer a consistent approach to collection and delivery. Collections from its manufacturing plant are subject to strict health and safety guidelines, with each driver having to undergo a site safety induction. Previous problems with multiple subcontractors created congestion, delayed product from leaving the site and resulted in poor performance.

The solution

We were able to improve the collection performance through its implant management team coordinating a core pool of drivers to collect finished product daily from Isover for staging at its nearby Runcorn depot. This immediately removed the risk of congestion and delays, and collecting drivers were quickly familiarised with the Isover site operations and demands, thus improving on-site safety.

With its market-leading national distribution network, EV Cargo was able to offer an efficient and cost-effective delivery service. The company’s FORS accreditation ensures its ability to safely undertake urban deliveries in London.

Ability to react

We sourced an additional short-term storage facility to support Isover’s manufacturing maintenance programme, managing transitional storage arrangements and multiple collection points without impacting on service.

Sector-leading performance

We have consistently outperformed the ‘delivered on-time and in full’ target and has achieved service levels in excess of 99% over the first two years of the contract. Continuous improvement initiatives have also reduced distribution costs and improved safety performance.

“EV Cargo has managed to steadily build and understand our objectives and meet them head-on through excellent delivery service. The open and positive working relationship has met challenges but we have managed to always successfully overcome these through fantastic communication and commitment from members of both teams who have displayed the working dynamic we wanted at the beginning of the journey. I would recommend as a transport provider and value their service greatly.” – David Murphy – Isover Warehouse & Logistics Manager.
