EV Cargo\u2019s Chief Sustainability Officer Dr Virginia Alzina has attended the COP27 climate change summit in Egypt to showcase the company\u2019s decarbonisation roadmap and develop partnerships to help meets its sustainability and net zero targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a signatory to the UN Global Compact and its Sustainable Development Goals, EV Cargo has made considerable progress towards reaching carbon neutrality across scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sustainability is one of EV Cargo\u2019s core values and its commitment to sustainable activities and environmental improvement across all aspects of its global operations means the COP27 conference provides a valuable opportunity to keep pace with developments that will affect EV Cargo and the logistics sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also a forum at which EV Cargo can demonstrate the progress it is making towards its decarbonisation goals and identify partners that can help it make meaningful sustainability progress across the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At last year\u2019s COP26 in Glasgow, EV Cargo signed a global MOU based on Calstart\u2019s Drive to Zero programme to achieve an interim goal of 30 per cent zero-emissions new bus and truck sales by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2040.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Virginia Alzina, EV Cargo\u2019s Chief Sustainability Officer, said: \u201cAll governments of the world, leaders from the private sector and other important stakeholders are coming together here to discuss how to solve the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur aim in attending COP27 is to help EV Cargo collaborate, form new coalitions and learn about emerging technology, new compliance standards and developments within the global logistics sector than can help us meet our sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNew technology around alternative fuels can help us significantly reduce our scope 1 emissions while reductions in scope 3 emissions are best achieved via strategic partnerships and collaborations. Attending specific workshops provides us with crucial knowledge and information that I can communicate with our Sustainability Committee and Executive Board and action across the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCompanies really can influence governments here, and we believe that EV Cargo\u2019s ongoing commitment to sustainability is an example of what can be achieved in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Virginia will be taking part in a special panel to be held on Friday \u2013 which has been dedicated as Decarbonisation Day at the conference.
