Global logistics and technology provider EV Cargo is celebrating a double success at the prestigious Amazon everywoman in Transport & Logistics awards.

IT director Kate Lovatt and head of marketing and communications Danielle Owen were praised as stars by the judges for their inspirational work in the logistics sector and their championing of women in the industry.

Kate was named as Tech Innovator of the Year and Danielle won the Freight Award – Above & Beyond honour. With Jo Duncan, the general manager of EV Cargo Express’ SuperHub, also making the judges’ shortlists, the awards were a great vindication and celebration of EV Cargo’s proactive policy of promoting and supporting women within logistics.

As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, EV Cargo is committed to gender equality as one of the UN’s sustainable development goals and has taken a number of positive measures to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity across its global workplaces.

The everywoman awards celebrate the contribution women make to transport and logistics. Kate, Danielle and Jo are seen as inspirations to others in a sector where workers were hailed as heroes for helping to deliver critical supplies, food and everyday essentials during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Kate has spearheaded the development of key EV Cargo technology systems, which have been instrumental in the company being able to handle record volumes of freight while at the same time minimising face-to-face contact to keep colleagues and customers safe. The everywoman judges hailed Kate as ‘an ambitious and determined team player who has shown a real passion for data science from an early stage of her career’.

Kate said: “I’m delighted to win such a highly respected award. At EV Cargo, everyone is given the opportunity to thrive and it is an honour to be helping women earn increasing recognition in the logistics industry.”

Danielle leads the all-female marketing and communications team. She led the brand alignment of five EV Cargo divisions and created a nationwide digital marketing campaign to help freight volumes reach record levels after lockdown restrictions. The judges ‘were impressed by Danielle’s ability to drive and influence for women’.

Danielle added: “EV Cargo is showing just what can be achieved in increasing female representation in the logistics sector and the benefits it brings for everyone. I’m so proud to win an everywoman award and would like to thank my team who worked so hard in such difficult circumstances over the past year.”

Virginia Alzina, EV Cargo chief sustainability officer, said: “Well done to all three ladies on their outstanding achievements in these highly regarded awards, which span a wide range of industries and sectors across transport and logistics.

“EV Cargo has made great strides in championing and promoting career opportunities for women in logistics and the development of a diverse, inclusive and balanced workforce is key to our strategy of creating a sustainable and successful business. People are a key pillar of our sustainability strategy and we’ve made a commitment to gender equality as one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.”
