Andy Bayliss, a transport operator with EV Cargo Logistics in Amesbury, is planning to run 135 miles in support of a veterans’ charity in just five days – despite saying he’s not a natural runner.

The Forces March sees competitors running five consecutive marathons between Ilfracombe in Devon and Bulford in Wiltshire.

Andy, who has been with the company for two years, has done one marathon before, but says the five-and-a-half-hour effort left him drained both mentally and physically.

He said: “This challenge inspired me to get my act together and train properly for what is set to be an epic challenge.”

Veteran Andy has set up a Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/andybayliss2020 to raise money for The Veterans Charity (www.veteranscharity.org.uk). More information about The Forces March can be found at www.forcesmarch.org.uk.

Andy has completed a number of endurance events over the past few years, including a 24-hour, 200-mile bike ride and a 75km walk in the Brecon Beacons.

Andy said: “Since turning 40 in 2013, and not doing any physical activity, I have pushed myself to new physical limits – endurance walks, 24-hour cycle rides and now my latest challenge. I have found that raising money for great causes help me go that extra mile.

“I am supporting The Veterans Charity, a small charity which helps veterans facing hardship with immediate needs support, things like food shops, clothing etc.

“I am a veteran myself and like to do my bit to help out. The Veterans Charity had its busiest year ever in 2020 with COVID causing more hardship than ever before.”
