It’s clear that the logistics industry as a whole could do more to engage and attract young people to the industry. Many young people may not understand the broadness of the logistics industry and the various roles and career opportunities within it. There’s also a perception that the sector has an ageing workforce and more needs to be done to inject new life and blood into the industry.
Many of our divisions already actively engage in apprenticeship and graduate programmes and have partnerships with local schools and colleges. We also work closely with logistics trade associations when they roll-out national campaigns to explain the employment and career opportunities logistics has to offer.
However, the increasing role that technology is now playing and the digitisation of the logistics and supply chain management will help attract college and university leavers with interest and qualifications in technology.
As part of our long-term growth strategy we will continue to implement programmes to attract graduates and interns across EV Cargo and ensure we have a ladder of opportunity to nurture management and ensure succession planning.
