Global technology-enabled logistics provider EV Cargo has launched a new, cost-effective road-air service from China to help combat the ongoing operational and capacity challenges around sea freight shipping.

With dedicated charter capacity to secure services to key UK and European markets, the bespoke twice-weekly service flies directly into London Heathrow.

Handling all associated customs formalities, EV Cargo can arrange onward transport to a number of European countries, ensuring the maintenance of a range of flexible and agile global supply chain solutions for its customers. Since COVID-19 restrictions were imposed, record demand for items like electronics, DIY and building supplies has resulted in a shortage of shipping containers and shipping capacity. This has combined with port closures, reduced port productivity, shipping delays and domestic haulage challenges to create an unprecedented market for rate levels and service.

Clyde Buntrock, EV Cargo Global Forwarding chief executive, said: “EV Cargo continues to respond to changing global market conditions and the introduction of this bespoke road-air service from China to UK and Europe provides our customers with another cost-effective option to ensure goods reach their intended markets in a timely manner.“With sea freight carriers predicted to omit European port calls following COVID related China port closures and the Suez canal blockage, the international shipping industry will take many months to recover any kind of service normalisation.

“EV Cargo’s China road-air service is a dedicated charter capacity designed to alleviate the predicted continuing issues, most especially in European destination markets.”

The twice-weekly full charter flies directly into London Heathrow, offering increased and predictable capacity and benefitting from rate stability in an increasingly volatile market.

The EV Cargo China road-air service uses road freight to move products from:

  • Beijing to London Heathrow in 5.5 days
  • Shanghai or Qingdao to London Heathrow in 6.5 days
  • Guangzhou to London Heathrow in 7.5 days
