Position: IT Support Manager

Role: I manage the Palletforce IT support desk and primarily offer support to Palletforce’s internal users, as well as the more than 100 businesses that form the member network.

We also provide support to users within EV Cargo. We typically deal with 300 to 400 support tickets per month across both EV Cargo and Palletforce.

I love the fast-paced nature of the business and the variety of challenges that we face – it definitely keeps you on your toes.

Biggest change: The biggest change since I joined was caused by the pandemic. My team and I have had to adapt to home working and, more importantly, adapt to supporting a remote workforce to ensure they could continue to carry out their jobs with as little disruption as possible.

Ambition/ hobbies: My aim is to continue to grow and develop in my role as EV Cargo grows.

Name: Sue Wheatley

Operating Company: Sue has been with Palletforce for eight years.

Position: Sales Administrator

Connect on LinkedIn

Role: My work involves supporting the sales team, providing them with any leads and collating all relevant information such as new accounts won, weekly pallet counts and prospects and pipelines for senior management.

I also prepare the sales meeting presentation pack and manage any leads coming through from the website, forwarding them on to the applicable Palletforce member. I have recently taken on invoicing and other finance-related tasks.

I’ve been an Employee Champion from the beginning. Being part of the charity committee is so rewarding, especially when you see the smiles of the people we help and support.

Biggest change: Palletforce has grown so much in the eight years since I joined and the biggest change has been becoming part of EV Cargo, which is clearly going from strength to strength.

Ambition: I don’t see myself as ever leaving Palletforce and plan to be part of the team until I retire.

Name: Ramona Nicola

Operating Company: Ramona has been with EV Cargo Global Forwarding for more than two years.

Position: Client Manager

Connect on LinkedIn

Role: I manage the River Island account, which ships about 4,000 to 5,000 freight containers a year. My role sees me deal with typical freight forwarding issues like space, lack of equipment, prioritising orders and loading plans.

I develop the account through the Customer Engagement Strategy, driven by senior stakeholders and we work alongside other departments including finance, customs and port operations.

We have an amazing team with an abundance of knowledge and whenever we encounter a situation that we can improve we put our heads together to create smarter ways of working to make customers’ lives simpler.

Working remotely meant changing the way we interact with each other and our clients but nobody complained and just made the best of the circumstances.

Ambition: Now that we are one business and working together, I would love to see more communication between the different divisions. As we return to normal it would be brilliant to start back with an event that encompasses the entire EV Cargo business.

Name: Oli Saffell

Operating Company: EV Cargo Logistics

Position: Business Development Manager

Connect on LinkedIn

Role: My principal role is bringing new opportunities to our chilled shared user network, focusing on food and drink retail suppliers. I’ve been working closely with our head of commercial and head of chilled transport to identify targets matching specific criteria, gathering information and contacts, then beginning to build relationships and presenting ideas about what benefits we can add.

I’m really enjoying the progression, working on larger, more complex challenges. I’m working with and learning from some of the most influential and respected people in the sector, which is really helping me to develop.

I went through a comprehensive induction process when I joined, which was incredible given the circumstances. I really appreciated the effort everyone went to to ensure I quickly became part of the team.

There is work to do developing the business’ digital and technological capabilities and I’m pleased to be part of that. This is a really exciting time for the division and I’m delighted to be contributing.

Name: Sven Wallace

Operating Company: Sven Wallace joined EV Cargo Solutions as IT Manager this year

Position: IT Manager

Connect on LinkedIn

Role: As IT Manager for the site, I’m responsible for supporting the delivery of the group strategy and the continuous improvement of the products and services for the Solutions division.
My team supports around 80 colleagues as well as the senior team.

On a number of key accounts – Mars, Refresco and Whirlpool – our partnerships with hauliers and carriers have ensured successful deliveries of vital products throughout the pandemic – I mean, who can live without beer, wine, chocolate and a dishwasher.

On top of those challenges, we moved premises in February to a new facility. That was the biggest challenge I’ve faced since joining. We have had a lot of change to deal with but everyone has maintained their professionalism and we are all feeling positive and looking forward to the next set of challenges.

The thing I get the biggest buzz out of at work is tackling something that causes inefficiency or frustration. Working within a technology-led sector offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of change, to engineer and embrace exciting new solutions and to bring everyone along on the journey.

My first few months with EV Cargo Solutions have been all about learning and understanding the set-up. The next steps are to shape the roadmap for the future, to support driving the business forward by improving processes, systems and ways of working and developing tools to make our proposition to potential customers even more attractive.
I’m looking forward to helping the division grow into a major player in the 4PL sector and it is great to be part of that journey.

The part of the job that gives me the most satisfaction is project success. It means we are all growing as a team. Projects are properly managed and we adopt industry best practice.

Ambition:  As the business keeps expanding, I want to see myself growing and continuing to enjoy my work.
