EV Cargo Global Forwarding has been working with John Pye Auctions, the UK’s largest auction house network, to provide national home delivery distribution for its half a million registered bidders.

John Pye Auctions holds over 1,300 online auctions a year across 22 UK sites, working for banks, lenders, retailers, government authorities and insolvency practitioners. The COVID-19 pandemic meant the company had to quickly shift its face-to-face business model to incorporate home delivery to complement online auction sales, which previously involved customers collecting their winning bid items in person.

The relationship began when EV Cargo Global Forwarding successfully supported John Pye Auctions in 2019 with the relocation, storage and distribution of over 700 pallets of salvage stock from a Germany distribution centre for an international retailer. The stock was subsequently shipped to John Pye Auctions in the UK for secondary market stock exit. Since then, EV Cargo Global Forwarding Germany has acted as the logistics control tower for John Pye Auctions, striving to find transportation solutions, sharing logistics expertise and training staff on packaging best practice.

Managing Director, EV Cargo Global Forwarding Germany, Sascha Stroetges explains: “To drive continuous improvement, cope with the surge in demand and navigate ongoing regional UK lockdowns, John Pye turned to us to help put the most challenging piece of their home delivery jigsaw in place. This summer, while collections were restricted, our European hub in Germany worked in collaboration with John Pye to put a comprehensive home delivery solution in place for auction lots bigger than parcel courier size.”

EV Cargo now manages national distribution, pallet deliveries and optional two-man deliveries. This involved developing a large-volume pallet solution to distribute items by road. So far 8,600 pallets have been delivered since June.

Sheldon Miller, Business Development Director, at John Pye Auctions says: “We have always wanted to offer a comprehensive home delivery solution to our customers but the challenge has always been finding a robust and reliable partner to undertake the project in partnership. Based on EV Cargo’s, efficient and effective project support last year in Germany, we had confidence in their ability to provide this solution and they have delivered….literally!”
